Welcome back my amazing readers. Below is a study I gave at my home church a couple weeks ago. I pray you are blessed by it.
“Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.” “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
John 4:20-24 NIV
A worshiper is someone who devotes their life to God’s service in spirit and in truth.
Devotes–
1. to give up or appropriate to or concentrate on a particular pursuit, occupation, purpose, cause, etc.: to devote one’s time to reading.
2. to appropriate by or as if by a vow; set apart or dedicate by a solemn or formal act; consecrate: She devoted her life to God.
To dedicate your life to God’s service. Worship is more than a few songs on a Sunday. It’s more than singing, it’s more than playing instruments , it’s a lifestyle.
How you act outside of church says more about what kind of worshiper you are than the worship you give on Sunday’s for a couple hours.
Sundays are one day. But who are you serving / worshiping Monday-Saturday?
A true worshiper is one who worships in spirit and in truth.
How one worships is more important than where one worships.
But Eli what do you mean in spirit and in truth?
I am referring to…
-Authentic worship-
“A worship that requires an inward change of heart not just an outward observation . Real worshippers of God worship in complete sincerity. “
The only thing we will take from this earth is how we worship. We will be eternally worshiping our Father. An eternal worship.
“Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.” “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.”
John 4:20-21 NIV
Here we see an example of a religious worship.
Worship freely wherever you are. God wants you to let go in worship ; forget about what people are saying, thinking, forget about what your situation is. Jesus made it a point that you don’t only have to worship God in a specific place. God serves all the Glory and honor daily, wherever you may find yourself. He is worthy!
I rebuke the spirit of religious worship that doesn’t allow God’s people to experience breakthrough.
“The essence of true worship is not external but internal.”
“Worship is not just limited to a song. It is a full life response to the object of our worship. When we truly worship something, it affects the way we live. “
Our lives have to be affected by our worship. If you are worshipping in spirit and in truth but your life is not affected by it… something is wrong. We have to re-examine our lives. We have to ask God why is our worship not affecting our lives? Why do we worship on Sunday but as soon as service is done we go back to our depression, back to our doubt, back to our desert, etc.?
Now…
What is it to worship in truth?
…To be aware of your situation but not let it affect your worship!
Be truthful with God; He’s not asking you to come before His presence and lie and say things are great. He will take you in your brokenness and transform it into joy through your worship.
We aren’t worshiping in spirit and in truth. We are worshiping for the moment instead. When you worship in spirit and in truth there has to be a shift in the atmosphere. Something has to change. But the greatest thing about worshiping in spirit and in truth is that even if your situation doesn’t change it does not affect how you worship God. This is huge and once you capture this you will enter that moment of worship in spirit and in truth.
Your worship should be your exit to a heavenly realm.
Worship God with your actions and words.
Examine yourself today. Are you worshiping in spirit and in truth or is it a routine for you?
“You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.”
John 4:22 NIV
Many things can steal our worship. What has been stealing your worship?
Enough of this passive worship let us worship so the heavens can move.
WORSHIPER RISE UP.
