Dismantling the Spirit of Fear

Hey Fam! Today I wanted to have the conversion about fear. This 4 letter word can have such a hold on so many of us. Fear can take so many forms and affect us in various ways in our lives. I wanted to break down just 3 of these fears that I believe paralyze us in our walk with the Lord. There are many more fears but today we will tackle these 3.

Fear: Feeling of anxiety concerning the outcome of something or the safety and well being of someone. To avoid or put off doing something because one is afraid.

Fear that is a stumbling block in your walk. Fear that paralyzes you. Fear that inhibits growth in your walk with the Lord.

Fears that paralyze some believers

  1. The fear of not knowing/ fear of the unknown
    • This is the fear of the unknown in the Lord. This could be fear for someone who is used to being in control. A person that is going from knowing it all and being completely self sufficient and only depending on themselves, to now having to lay it all down for someone else to figure out (God). Not knowing our next move can be a trigger point for some of us and it can cause fear and even anxiety for some. We now have to lose control so that God can gain control over our lives. We have to understand that we are no longer independent , but now we are DEPENDENT on God for all things.
    • Something that I personally struggled with. I liked being in control of everything. Almost as if it was by my own strength and not God’s. It was hard for me to let go and trust that God would take care of me and take control of my situations. For me 1+1 needed to equal 2. It was hard for me to let go and trust that God would add it up for me.
    • Not knowing His plans for our lives can be a trigger point and something the enemy can use to plant fear in our hearts.
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. - Jeremiah 29:11

We should be at peace knowing that even if God does not give us revelation of the unknown, we will be well taken care of by our Father. God has it all planned out for you already. God isn’t guessing when it comes to your life. It’s already been planned. He took time to design a plan for your life. Nothing you do or do not do surprises the Lord.

He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.- Acts 1:7

The revelation of the seasons / times will not always be revealed. We need to learn to trust God with our lives and with our direction. Knowing that He has a plan for us.

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.- Psalm 56:3

2. The Fear of not being worthy

Some believers are paralyzed because they do not think they are worthy to receive the full extent of what God has for them. They believe there is no way they are worthy of what God has for them. They don’t believe in themselves. They are still bound to their past. They don’t believe they are a new creation in Christ.

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:[a]The old has gone, the new is here!- 2 Corinthians 5:17
12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name,he gave the right to become children of GodJohn 1:12

You are worthy. You were bought at a price!

There is a specific journey and path God has for you that only you can execute. God wants to do great things with you but you first have to believe that He will do those things with you! You have to believe you are worthy! Don’t be scared to declare that He will do great things with you! It’s okay to say this and believe it. We need to believe every word that has been spoken over our lives and to walk in it with full confidence. To God be all the glory!

Believe that you are an asset in the kingdom of God. Believe that there is a job for you to do and accomplish. It’s okay to get excited about what God is doing in you and through you. At the end all of the glory belongs to God and it is not by our own strength, but by His.

1Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. -John 14:12
13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.- Philippians 2:13
10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.- Ephesians 2:10
11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.- 1 Corinthians 6:11

3. The fear of failing

Sometimes we are paralyzed because we fear failing God. We fear taking a step forward because we think we will fall flat on our face. We fear failing and failing God. We allow the fear of failing to paralyze us to a point that we are not able to move forward.

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.- 2 Timothy 1:7
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”- Joshua 1:9

Having God guide us and our decision making is of most importance! We know we will never fail God if we are aligned with His will. The enemy would never ask us to do something that would expand the kingdom of God. This is a tactic of the enemy. If he can convince you that you will fail God, He has you hooked. But those that are free in Christ know that if God is asking you to do it, you will not fail Him! God will be with you! He will walk with you!

For those asking, “But what is the will of God?” Here are a few things that are the will of the Father:

  1. Love your neighbor ( Mark 12:31)
  2. Be sanctified ( 1 Thess. 4:3)
  3. Give thanks ( 1 Thess. 5:18)
  4. Set the captives free (Isaiah 61:1)
  5. Preach the gospel ( Mark 16:15)

and many more…

If you open up your bible it is filled of things that are His will for your life!

I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.
- Psalm 34:4

I pray this study was of blessing to your life!

Sincerely,

Eli ❤
