Hello my fellow Curlistas,
I have not forgotten about you! I know this post is way overdue!! I just wanted to update you all on everything that I am currently using to get my curly locks ready to go out the door. First, I want to encourage those that have just started their natural hair journey! You rock and you look fabulous in whatever stage you may find yourself in! I know sometimes it’s hard to practice self-love when you are in the middle of your natural transition period. Just know it is well worth it and you are beautiful just as God created you! For some encouragement here are some of my transition pictures… (YIKES)
I covered my face because I couldn’t deal with my face in these pics! hahaha!
BEFORE:

Okay, so there you have it. My hair was so heat damaged and color damaged! The best thing I did was start my natural hair journey a few years ago. You can do it too! It is totally worth it to see your hair nice, healthy and full again. Here are my after pictures:

Pretty significant change! If you want to know how I achieved this, keep reading!
The number one thing you need to remember is you must “trust the process”. It will be a long journey but your hair will thank you for it. It will take a lot of patience as well. But don’t worry there is a curly natural hair community that can support and help you on the way. Connecting with people who are going through the same thing was huge for me! Having supporting friends and family is also a huge help. I filled my social media with people that would motivate me to continue my natural route. Don’t lose focus of the final goal!
OK, now that we are done with phase 1, let’s move on to routine and products! WOOT!! WOOT!
- Get rid of your blow dryer and flat-iron! Or store it away where it cannot be easily accessible. This will stop you from reaching for it in a moment of desperation.
- Stock up on all your natural hair products so that you don’t get tempted to use anything else.
My routine and favorite products are below:
- I stopped using shampoo and I now use Castile liquid soap to wash my hair. MAN! I SAW A HUGE DIFFERENCE JUST DOING THIS! My hair was so fried, dry and brittle. Castile soap gave my hair back the life it was missing and made my hair super soft! This will help immensely when detangling your hair.
- Condition as usual! I usually use treseme just because I use so much of it because I have soooooo much hair. LOL But I do want to transition to a more natural conditioner. Will keep you all updated when I find the perfect one!
- Detangle! I use a conair paddle brush to detangle my locks/ you can use a wide toothed comb too! Whatever works for your hair. If you have fine hair you can detangle with a denman brush as well. I find I have way to much hair and the denman brush is too small. I would be there all night. Haha!
- I squeeze as much water out of my hair (DO NOT USE TOWEL). The towel will dry out of your hair and make it frizzy.
- I slather on my favorite leave in conditioner which is from Cantu hair products! After I slather this on I part my hair and go section by section and apply leave in conditioner and the Cantu hair gel. At this time I will use my denman brush sometimes to give my curls a more defined look. I do this all over my hair. After this I do not touch my hair for the next 2 hours (the more you touch your hair the frizzier it will get).
- You can let your hair air dry (which is what I almost always do) or you can choose to diffuse. For my hair I cannot diffuse before the 2 hour mark because my hair will turn into a poodle!! So weird! haha! But if I wait 2 hours for it to air dry and then diffuse it looks good! I however, prefer air drying as in general you will have less frizz.
- BOOM BOOM BAM out the door. Once my hair is nice and dry then I pick it if I want a bigger afro look.
Let me know if you have any questions or want pictures of the products I use?
